Building Purchase
For Immediate Release by: Exeter Presbyterian Church and St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church
Date: June 29, 2006 St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church and Exeter Presbyterian Church announced today the sale of the former St. Michael Parish Center located at 73 Winter Street to Exeter Presbyterian Church for an undisclosed amount. The building was formally known as Winter Street School, and was later purchased by the Knights of Columbus before being sold to St. Michael’s. Pastor Steve Magee of the Presbyterian Church took the occasion to express “the church’s sincere appreciation to the St. Michael’s community for their kind support over these last two and a half years.” The Presbyterian church building, formerly located at the corner of Front and Center Street, was destroyed in a tragic fire in November, 2003. Since the Sunday following the fire, St. Michael’s has made the Winter Street property available for the use of the Presbyterian Church. The building also houses Exeter Classical Christian School. The Presbyterian community first investigated the option of rebuilding their church at the Front and Center location. The church’s governing body eventually determined that purchase of the Winter Street building would be a better choice for the future. The Front Street lot is now for sale. St. Michael’s will continue to use the Winter Street facility until their new church building is completed, now as the guests of the Presbyterians. The two groups have worked very well together over the last two and a half years and are thankful for the friendship that has been forged during this time of need.
